Visit from Pravrajika Gitaprana
January 11 - 24, 2017

Past Special Guests - 2017
Pravrajika Gitaprana, minister in residence of Vivekananda Retreat, Ridgeley, New York, visited the Vedanta Center of St. Petersburg in January, 2017. She was the guest speaker on Sunday, January 15, 2017. The topic was Swami Vivekananda: Stand Up and Be Strong.
Her talk was inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda’s words and actions were indeed Bold and Strong, how do we really understand and put into practice the powerful words and actions suggested by the Swami? Pravrajika Gitaprana suggested a very practical approach - a simple way to build yourself to where one can work to become strong and act upon the ideals preached by Swami Vivekananda. They are:
Have an Ideal; the Ideal should be one you Love and also one that gives you Strength. She believes that the fact we were all there on a Sunday listening to her suggested we had already taken the first step. Have a strong foundation and pour that ideal into your head.
Secondly, question yourself. Since our experience is generated by our mind, we have to continually challenge what we see and think. We should question the validity of our current experiences. Spiritual progress is in aspiring toward the ideal, faltering, standing up and trying again. That is the real moving forward.
Finally do not develop attachment. When you do not have attachments, there is a lesser chance for you to get angry and become stuck in a groove.
We were happy to have Pravrajika Gitaprana visiting us again and we shall look forward to more of her such visits in the future.
